Delicious Data aims to combat food waste with machine learning and algorithms. Restaurants can connect their software to the Munich-based startup and receive predictions about what their guests are likely to eat in the near future. To reach even more restaurants with its approach, the Munich-based startup is now collaborating with Kitcat365, a software solution for large-scale catering developed by the Austrian IT company Amathan.
Plan menus better and save food
Stefan Gurszky, Managing Director of Amathan, explained:
"With Delicious Data's forecasts, our customers can better plan their menus, reduce costs, and save on food. We therefore quickly agreed that Kitcat should have an interface with Delicious Data."
Delicious Data, which was awarded the German Federal Prize in June 2020 “Too good for the bin” The award-winning product is now used in more than 60 establishments, including major international companies such as Aramark and Bayer Gastronomie, a subsidiary of the chemical and pharmaceutical group.
The Munich-based startup's forecasts are calculated by an algorithm using big data. Kitcat transmits to the young company information about what guests in a canteen or commercial kitchen have eaten over the past months and years. The algorithm then compiles statistics from this data, links them to the season, weather, vacations, and holidays, creates forecast values, and sends them to Kitcat. When you plan a menu in Kitcat, the forecast suggestions appear on the screen.
Lower storage costs and more efficient personnel planning
The algorithm achieves significantly better results than conventional kitchen methods.
“If you compare the actual quantity and the target quantity, we achieve an improvement of 40 percent on average,”
says one of the two Delicious Data founders Valentin Belser. The economic benefits also include lower storage costs and more efficient personnel planning. Stefan Gurszky of Amathan adds:
"A particular strength of Kitcat is that the software is based on a commercial solution and therefore seamlessly supports all processes of a restaurant business. Delicious Data's forecasting now adds another valuable element."
