Million-dollar project: Center for digitalization planned

The topic of digitalization has become indispensable in connection with economic progress, even in Bavaria. Süddeutsche Zeitung As reported on Monday, Economics Minister Ilse Aigner is now planning further support for this important area in the form of a new center for digitalization. 116 million euros are to be used for this purpose. Additional funds will also be made available for future, special projects.

Aigner calls for “courageous decisions” on digitalization

For the Free State to be at the forefront of digital transformation, "in view of global competition, bold action is necessary rather than hesitantly waiting," Aigner said. This is why the new institution, which sees itself as a Bavaria-wide research, cooperation, and start-up platform, is needed.

The "Center for Digitalization. Bavaria" is scheduled to be built in the north of Munich, specifically in Garching. Aigner also wants to create 20 professorships for digitalization. The CSU politician will present her plans to the cabinet on Tuesday. She calls for "bold decisions so that Bavaria's companies can assert themselves in global competition and our citizens can secure their standard of living."

On Friday, 6 March 2015, the Minister had just launched the new online portal “Start-up Land.Bavaria” presented in the WERK1 in Munich.
