24 million for camper startup Roadsurfer

Roadsurfer offers camper vans for sale, rental, and subscription. HV Capital, Heartcore Capital, Andrej Henkler, and existing investor 10x are now investing €24 million in the Munich-based outdoor travel scaleup as part of a Series B round. Roadsurfer aims to use the capital to initiate a new phase of the company's development and launch another platform.

During the Corona crisis, campervans are an obvious alternative to hotel holidays. Nevertheless, the company, founded in 2016, Startup Roadsurfer also experienced negative Corona influences:

“The Corona pandemic did not quite allow the initially planned growth for 2020 to be achieved, but the pandemic will nevertheless give the already growing camping and outdoor industry a strong extra boost,”

says co-founder Markus Dickhardt to Munich Startup.

“The trend towards individual holidays close to nature was already very clearly visible.”

“We are making Roadsurfer the leading outdoor travel brand in the long term”

Roadsurfer is currently planning to expand into four additional European countries, double its fleet to 2,500 vehicles, and grow its workforce to over 500. In addition, two new models will be added to the range and an international platform for individual camping spots will be launched.

Markus Dickhardt says:

"We grew organically during the first three years of our Roadsurfer journey, and with the entry of 10x at the end of 2019, we laid the foundation for the further expansion of our business. We now look forward to further expanding our international market leadership with new investors who will contribute not only capital but also comprehensive expertise in the international travel sector. In this way, we are making Roadsurfer the leading outdoor travel brand in the long term."

Christian Saller, General Partner at HV Capital, says:

"The outdoor and camping holiday segment has been booming for years. This development has received even more momentum due to Covid-19 and the associated desire for more flexibility and individuality. We are therefore delighted to support the Roadsurfer team in building the market leader in this exciting sector."
