Every two years, the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs awards the "Bavarian Energy Prize" to outstanding innovations in the responsible use of energy. The most innovative ideas will receive a total of €31,000 in prize money, with the main prize winner receiving €15,000. The application deadline is March 18.
Startups are welcome to apply. However, they must have already successfully implemented their idea and, for example, developed a prototype that passes expert review.
Innovative young companies score highly in the award criteria: emphasis is placed on technical novelty and the degree of innovation.

In 2014, projects, products, concepts and processes ranging from energy-saving projects in educational institutions to energy-efficient residential buildings were honored in four different categories.
Eight categories, eight chances to win a prize
The Bavarian Energy Award 2016 will be presented on 20 October 2016 in Nuremberg. This year, in addition to the main prize across all categories, there will be a prize in eight different categories:
- Building as an energy system / building concept
- Energy generation – electricity, heat
- Energy distribution and storage – electricity, heat
- Energy efficiency in industrial processes and production
- Products and applications
- Municipal energy concepts
- Initiatives / educational projects
- Energy research
