“In code we trust”: Hackathon seeks participants

The virtual hackathon "In Code We Trust – Responsible Innovation for a Flourishing Society" is looking for young programming talents to develop software solutions in the areas of environment and climate, health, cybersecurity, and the fight against disinformation. A total of more than €25,000 in prize money is up for grabs.

Together with the US Consulate General in Munich organizes the Amerikahaus the hackathon "In Code We Trust – Responsible Innovation for a Flourishing Society." From April 23 to June 29, 2021, young developers can compete in four challenges:

  • Under the heading “Fighting Disinformation,” solutions are sought that address problems associated with disinformation campaigns;
  • The “Environment and Climate” challenge is about software that can help solve the challenges of climate change;
  • The “Cybersecurity” challenge revolves around software solutions that can make the digital space safer for individuals and companies;
  • and finally, the area of “Digital Health” covers all solutions relating to the healthcare sector.

There is a prize of €3,000 up for grabs in each category and as the overall winner, with the runners-up receiving €2,000 each. All submissions will be evaluated by a jury based on three criteria: quality of the idea, implementation, and social impact. The winners of "In Code We Trust" are expected to be announced on July 22, 2021.

Anyone between the ages of 15 and 28 residing in Bavaria can participate in the hackathon, whether as an individual or as a team. Late entry into the competition is still possible; the important thing is that the project is submitted on time by the June 29 deadline.

All information about the competition can be found online.
