Mondelēz International launches Biodiversity Challenge

The food company Mondelēz International is looking for innovative ideas and solutions already being implemented to protect biodiversity. The application deadline for the Biodiversity Challenge ends on September 9, 2021.

The six-month Biodiversity Challenge focuses on measuring biodiversity and biodiversity loss, educating decision-makers and farmers, and improving agricultural practices. Mondelēz, together with the agency Social Impact, is seeking projects in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Social startups and social organizations with innovative solutions in the field of agriculture. The challenge is also supported by the company's own impact investing platform "Sustainable Futures," which promotes innovative business models with a sustainability focus worldwide.

"With our corporate strategy 'Snacking Made Right,' we want to offer our consumers the right snack for the right moment. Our snacks should also be produced in the right way,"

explained Heike Hauerken, corporate spokesperson for Mondelēz International in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The international group includes brands such as Milka, Philadelphia, and Tuc.

"With the Biodiversity Challenge, we want to support innovative projects and ideas to promote biodiversity and complement the commitment of our sustainability program Harmony to protect biodiversity in wheat cultivation."

50,000 euros prize money

Up to eight teams will receive professional support over six months in the form of workshops, mentoring, and coaching. Mondelēz International also offers networking opportunities with decision-makers and financial support to help participants implement their plans. The finalists will then present their ideas to a panel of experts at the end of the challenge. The three best teams will receive a total of €50,000 in prize money: €25,000 for first place, €15,000 for second place, and €10,000 for the third-place team. The challenge started in July and runs until November of this year. It will take place entirely digitally and online.
