“Digitalschmiede Bayern”: Digital Ministry and UnternehmerTUM want to digitize the administration

The Bavarian Ministry of Digital Affairs has initiated the "Digitalschmiede Bayern" (Bavarian Digital Forge) program to develop digital processes for the public sector. The Digital Product School of the UnternehmerTUM startup center is implementing the project. Applications are now open.

As part of the 'Digitalschmiede Bayern' initiative, participating teams will develop suitable digital solutions based on real challenges in public authorities. The needs of citizens will be the focus of development from the outset. The Bavarian Minister for Digital Affairs Judith Gerlach has given the green light for the application. She says:

"We're looking for creative and energetic digital talent – the more diverse the backgrounds, the better. We're also looking for dedicated colleagues from the administration who know how things work and at the same time want to bring a breath of fresh air into the offices. Experimentation and unconventional ideas are expressly encouraged."

First projects of the Digitalschmiede Bayern start next January

Within two years, the "Digitalschmiede Bayern" (Bavarian Digital Forge) will develop around 30 customized solutions for public authorities across Bavaria. Experts from the participating state ministries will contribute their legal and technical requirements, as well as their specialist and methodological expertise, to the product development process. Thomas Zeller, CDO of UnternehmerTUM says:

"With the Digital Product School We successfully support public partners and companies in the rapid development of digital products and solutions. At the same time, program participants gain important skills and experience that can be crucial for their future careers."

The first projects of Digitalschmiede Bayern will start in January 2022. Further information about the program and how to apply is available here.
