The NUI regional ranking – short for new entrepreneurial initiative – provides information about the regions in Germany where companies are starting up new businesses. The ranking thus describes the entrepreneurial dynamics in the various regions.
Following the Munich district in the ranking are the independent city of Leverkusen, the Miesbach district, the Rosenheim district, and the Starnberg district. The independent city of Munich ranks 65th in the ranking. Two other districts in the greater Munich area occupy the top 20 spots: the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district in 6th place and the Dachau district in 17th place. This means that four of the 20 top German regions are located within the Munich S-Bahn network. In total, 11 of the 20 top regions are located within Bavaria.
City-states dominate the NUI country ranking
Newcomers to the top 20 group are the independent city of Kempten (Allgäu) and the districts of Dachau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The independent city of Schwabach has returned to the top group. The independent cities of Wiesbaden and Baden-Baden, as well as the districts of Ebersberg and Marburg-Biedenkopf, have dropped out of the top 20. Institute for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Research Bonn has published the number of regional business registrations per 10,000 inhabitants of working age annually since 1998.
Bavaria ranks 5th in the country ranking. The two city-states of Berlin and Hamburg lead the ranking, followed by Schleswig-Holstein and Hesse.
