88 percent of the Digital Association Respondents have a positive attitude toward digital technologies. For 89 percent, digital technologies are an integral part of their lives, and for 80 percent, they make life easier. Even among those over 75, 71 percent have a positive view of digitalization.
Fifty-seven percent say digitalization is moving too slowly, 23 percent think the pace is just right, and 18 percent say digitalization is moving too quickly. The highest number, 36 percent, was found among those over 75.
Although the majority of respondents view the country as digitally divided and fear that not everyone benefits equally from technological progress, their share has fallen from 65 percent in 2021 to 58 percent now.
Digitalization: “There is far too large a group that cannot keep pace with developments”
To overcome the digital divide, the majority of the more than 1,000 Bitkom respondents advocate for targeted measures to strengthen digital literacy: 83 percent want digital media and information literacy to be promoted in education. 57 percent demand free training and continuing education opportunities. 71 percent want accessible digital offerings, such as operation and explanations in plain language. Bitkom President Achim Berg says:
"The vast majority of people in Germany use digital technologies as a matter of course, whether privately in everyday life or professionally at work. But there is also a far too large group that cannot keep pace with developments, for whom digitalization is moving too fast. This is a challenge, and the majority agrees. Half would like to participate more in the digital world, but fail to do so due to a lack of technical knowledge. This is where we must start and focus on teaching digital and media skills from childhood to old age."
