Pina Earth was founded in 2021 by Gesa Biermann, Florian Fincke, and Jonas Kerber. The company offers forest owners a range of digital data collection and monitoring solutions for the CO2 certification of their forests. In this way, Pina Earth aims to facilitate access to certificate trading, especially for owners of smaller forests. At the beginning of the year, Y Combinator awarded the Startup included in its program.
The now completed seed round of €2.4 million is led by Xange and Nordstar. Also participating are business angels such as Gustaf Alstromer (Partner at Y Combinator) and Sundeep Ahuja (Partner at Climate Capital), as well as serial founders such as Lea-Sophie Cramer (Amorelie) and Anselm Bauer-Wohlleb (Alasco, Stylight). The financing round follows Pina Earth's pre-seed financing from Silicon Valley investor Y Combinator earlier this year.
Co-founder and CEO Gesa Biermann explained:
"The support of this group of high-caliber investors is a testament to the speed with which we've made progress since our founding just one year ago. All of this is possible because we have a strong team working together on an urgent mission: making Europe's forests climate-resilient."
“Supporting the climate resilience of European forests”
"Xange is proud to continue investing in Climatetech and supporting the climate resilience of European forests. Pina Earth's technology generates high-quality European CO2 certificates, for which demand will continue to grow. This investment contributes to protecting the financial and environmental value of our forests,"
say Nadja Bresous, partner, and Astrid Moullé-Berteaux, Associate at Xange.
Pina Earth plans to use the new funding to fill several key roles within the team and further product development. Starting with pilot projects in Germany, the company aims to expand its activities to forests across the EU.
