The Munich startup founded in 2017 Blickfeld develops and produces LiDAR sensors and perception software. These generate precise three-dimensional information about the shape and surface properties of surrounding objects, enabling a wide range of applications. The technology is already being used in the privacy-compliant detection of vehicle and pedestrian flows in retail spaces and public spaces. It also supports traffic flow optimization, urban planning, and the reduction of false alarms in building and security systems.
Blickfeld plans to use the additional capital to advance the development of its LiDAR solutions for autonomous driving and various industrial applications. Furthermore, the startup aims to expand its position in key international markets. To this end, the Munich-based company is currently opening regional offices in international markets such as the US and China. Blickfeld currently has approximately 130 employees.
EIB Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle, responsible for Germany and the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), says:
"With our venture debt program, we support innovative young companies that need long-term growth capital to fully focus on the further development of their products and their global marketing. The financing of Blickfeld demonstrates the strong commitment of EIBto support innovative early-stage companies to strengthen Europe's competitiveness."
“Blickfeld’s 3D LiDAR solutions create completely new application areas”
EU Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni sees great potential in the Munich startup:
"Innovation and sustainability are two of the key criteria we consider when deciding whether to finance companies and projects. Blickfeld's 3D LiDAR solutions create entirely new areas of application, whether in autonomous driving and smart mobility, the construction industry, or agriculture. This not only gives companies a competitive edge but also makes the supply chain as a whole more efficient and sustainable."
And Mathias Müller, Co-Founder and CEO of Blickfeld, explains:
"The EIB's support is a testament to Blickfeld's maturity as a company and the confidence its leaders have in the potential of our LiDAR technology. The capital provided by the EIB is the ideal financing instrument for us to expand even more rapidly. We are convinced that our LiDAR solutions make a real difference for numerous industries, and we are delighted that the EIB has recognized this as an important innovative technology to strengthen Europe as a business location."
