Until recently, mazel as the anti-Tinder app. Now the Munich-based founding team is surprising everyone with a change of strategy: Dating no longer plays a role for the startup.
Market analyses have shown that limiting the topic to dating would have been unlikely to be successful. Instead, the focus in the future should be on getting to know one's existing circle of friends better.
Even though dating is no longer a topic on mazel, the mini-games planned from the beginning remain. Users gain information about their friends and reveal something about themselves. According to the founders, there are no limits to the type of information: from your biggest secret to your favorite book, anything is possible. Depending, of course, on how much your friends are willing to share about themselves.
Is an investor in the Big Apple biting?
Otherwise, the news regarding the change in direction remains somewhat cryptic. The founders don't seem to want to go into too much detail yet, but they do announce a grand vision. They will reveal only this much: Founders Moe and Steffi are currently in New York to hold talks with potential investors.
The beta version of "mazel 2.0" is scheduled to launch in April. By then, we'll see how users respond to the new app and whether the pivot was the right decision. We'll stay on top of things, of course, and try to test the new mazel as soon as possible.
