Personio, Lilium and Finn: Munich startups are the most popular among applicants

The social network LinkedIn has published its annual ranking of the most popular startups as employers. Three Munich-based startups, Personio, Lilium, and Finn, occupy the top spots in the rankings.

The HR software startup After finishing third last year, Personio reached the top of the LinkedIn ranking. Lilium, developer of flying taxis, remains in second place as last year. Car subscription startup Finn jumps from seventh to third place. With Helsing, a provider of machine learning for military reconnaissance, in ninth place, there are four Munich-based startups on the top 10 list. Five other startups on the list come from Berlin, and one from Hamburg.

Personio, Lilium and Finn in the lead: “We see that Munich continues to compete with Berlin as the startup capital.”

“In total, there are five newcomers in the ranking, which shows that the German startup scene is constantly changing and new players are entering the scene that will become exciting for job seekers within a few years,”

says Jacob Schulz, Editor-in-Chief Central Europe at Linkedin.

"At the same time, we see that Munich continues to compete with Berlin as the startup capital, and the rest of Germany plays a barely significant role. Only one of the top ten startups is based in Hamburg."

For the ranking, LinkedIn examines the information and interactions of its 830 million members, focusing on four factors: the growth of the number of employees of the startups in question, interactions on their LinkedIn company pages and their employees' profiles, interest in their job openings, and their attractiveness to top candidates. Only independent and privately owned companies with at least 50 employees and founded no more than seven years ago are considered for the evaluation. Furthermore, they are only included in the list of the country in which their headquarters are located.
