There are still too few women starting businesses. According to the German Startup Monitor 2021 The proportion of female founders in Germany is less than 18 percent. The Munich initiative One Mission wants to change this and bring more diversity to the Munich startup scene. One Mission aims for a quarter of all startups in Germany to be founded by women by 2025 (#25to25). The initiative is now receiving support from the Insurtech Hub Munich (ITHM), which, together with One Mission, plans to specifically promote female entrepreneurship in the future. For the Munich-based, globally active innovation platform for the insurance industry, this step represents a further development of its diversity strategy.
The plan is to network various projects to increase the proportion of women in business start-ups in Munich and Bavaria, to provide a platform for successful female business founders in order to make them visible as role models and to raise awareness of the attractiveness of business start-ups in the insurance sector and in the insurance-related spectrum.
Kathrin Schwidder, member of the ITHM Board of Management and Head of Strategy and Lifetime Partner Transformation at Generali Deutschland AG, says:
"From the very beginning, the Insurtech Hub Munich has placed great emphasis on gender diversity and the promotion of female entrepreneurs. Now, with the integration of One Mission, we have taken this topic to a new level. As a cross-sectoral sector with strategic connections to a wide variety of industries, the insurance sector and the innovation ecosystem of the Insurtech Hub Munich are well-suited to promoting a wide variety of business models. We are convinced that many female founders and their startups will benefit from the ITHM's formats and programs."
“Signal effect for more female entrepreneurship”
Marlene Eder, who founded One Mission together with Vanessa Provenzano and Maike Wursthorn three years ago, adds:
"With ITHM, we at One Mission have found a perfect partner to achieve greater gender diversity in the German startup ecosystem. To date, the ITHM startup programs have already averaged almost 20 percent female founders. We want to significantly increase this proportion and thus send a signal for more female entrepreneurship."
And Hubert Aiwanger, Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, says:
"More women as founders and entrepreneurs: We are happy to support this goal of the Insurtech Hub Munich. That's why we're also supporting the One Mission initiative this year. The project is the perfect complement to our umbrella campaign "Startup Land Bavaria." I'm convinced that Bavaria will become an even better place if we succeed in inspiring more women to pursue entrepreneurship."
