Flix wants to expand to India

Flix plans to expand its bus division Flixbus into India next year. The Munich-based company is aiming for market leadership on the subcontinent.

India is set to be Flix's 42nd country of operation. The potential is enormous, as India's long-distance bus market is larger than those of North America, Europe, and Turkey combined. The first Flixbusse are scheduled to operate across the subcontinent by 2024.

André Schwämmlein, co-founder and CEO of Flix, says his company wants to continue expanding globally, grow profitably and build the best long-distance bus network in India:

"India is one of the most promising markets in the world. We will invest significantly there and aim to become the market leader, as we do in all Flix countries."

Flix expansion to India: “Market potential is huge”

As in other markets, Flix does not intend to operate buses in India itself. Operational operations will be handled by regional bus companies. Munich companies provides technology, customer service, quality management, network planning, marketing, and sales. Schwämmlein says:

"The demand for sustainable collective travel options in India is enormous and continues to grow. Furthermore, online bookings are becoming increasingly popular in India. Therefore, expansion was a logical step for us—the market potential is huge."

In addition to Flixbus, Flix also operates its subsidiary Flixtrain. Flixbus claims to be the market leader in Europe and is also active in Turkey, the USA, and Brazil. Flixtrain currently only operates on routes in Germany and Sweden. The green trains do not currently serve its home station in Munich.
