Gutfeel: Market research with Generation Z

The Munich-based startup Gutfeel offers B2C companies digital testing with the Generation Z market, allowing customers to launch quickly and cost-effectively. The idea originated from a student project for which the team won the Strascheg Award in 2021. Gutfeel was officially founded in 2023 by Marius Greubel and Dominik Grauer with an Exist scholarship.

Munich Startup: What does Gutfeel do? What problem does it solve?

Marius Greubel, Gutfeel: We conduct market research with Generation Z via app. This increasingly important target group is very difficult to reach and underrepresented with conventional market research solutions. Therefore, we have set ourselves the task of specifically targeting young people with our solution. With a DIY approach, we enable our clients to gather market feedback from Gen Z within a few hours and for as little as three-digit amounts.

Goal: Largest GenZ community for market feedback

Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!

Marius Greubel: Gutfeel specializes in Generation Z. Our incentive system is specifically designed for young people, making survey participation interactive and engaging. This makes the rather dry topic of "surveys and market research" appealing to teenagers and young adults.

Munich Startup: What is your founding story?

Marius Greubel: Dominik and I met during our Master's program in "Entrepreneurship and Digital Transformation" at Munich University of Applied Sciences in collaboration with the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship. After two years of weekend and evening projects, as well as several pivots, sleepless nights, and the acceptance of the Exist start-up grant, we have been together since November 2022. full-time on Gutfeel and have mastered the market entry in June 2023.

Founding as a team: Like a marriage

Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?

Marius Greubel: Finding co-founders is always a challenge because it feels like entering into a marriage. Every corner has to be a good fit. The financial uncertainty of being a founder is another. But as long as time isn't extremely pressing, we'll accept the current situation. Aligned with one of our values, "Trust the process and your gut feeling," we'll just keep going and give it our best!

Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?

Marius Greubel: We are very pleased with the results of the first pilot projects. We are generating revenue, and our app community is also growing bit by bit. In the next step, we want to gain further experience in the market and get to know our customers even better. The goal is to maximize the added value we can generate through market feedback.

Gutfeel: Very satisfied with pilot project

Marius Greubel: In the long term, however, we are pursuing the vision of building the largest GenZ community for market feedback in the German-speaking region, giving every consumer a voice and making this young and increasingly attractive market accessible to all companies.

Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?

Marius Greubel: Extremely vibrant, with many bright minds, creative thinkers, and, above all, support from various organizations. Highly recommend!

Munich Startup: Public transport or bicycle?

Marius Greubel: Bicycle! Last month's Google stats say I've ridden 356 km.
