Helmholtz Munich and Life Science Factory begin partnership

Munich's biotech hub is growing: The Life Science Factory incubator, initiated by Sartorius in Göttingen, is opening a new location at the Helmholtz Munich biomedical research center. Together, the two new partners aim to support spin-offs in the life sciences.

The project, initiated by the Göttingen-based pharmaceutical and laboratory supplier Sartorius, incubator Life Science Factory and Helmholtz Munich are entering into a strategic partnership. Within this framework, the Life Science Factory will be located in the newly opened Helmholtz Pioneer Campus will establish a second location. Opening is planned for spring 2024. There, young entrepreneurs will have access to laboratories and basic infrastructure, as well as sound business expertise. A startup network in the life sciences field will also be established. In this way, the new partners aim to significantly support the translation of innovative technologies.

The cooperation aims to provide long-term, needs-based support for scientific spin-offs. The partners focus on both optimal infrastructure and in-depth content support. The Life Science Factory, for example, offers fully equipped laboratories and co-working space for startups on its 1,800 square meters. It also offers a mentoring and event program that provides opportunities for exchange and access to startup knowledge and a relevant network. In addition to life sciences, the offerings focus on interface technologies such as bioengineering and AI applications.

“Promote the transfer of innovative research into commercial application”

Marco Janezic, Managing Director of the Life Science Factory, says:

"Following our positive experiences at our home base in Göttingen, we are pleased to be joining another strong and established ecosystem with the new location in Munich. The proximity to Helmholtz Munich and the research institutions located there will promote greater exchange and the transfer of innovative research into commercial applications."

Matthias Tschöp, CEO of Helmholtz Munich and founding director of the Pioneer Campus, adds:

"Creative entrepreneurial spirit and successful company start-ups are just as important at Pioneer Campus as scientific publications or prestigious awards. Through our strategic partnership with the Life Science Factory, we are creating a stimulating environment for our researchers to put their ideas into practice faster and more easily. Founders find a unique environment here to shape the future of biomedical development."
