This year's Health-i Award was all about the booming healthcare startup scene. From a total of 129 applications received, the Techniker Krankenkasse (health insurance company) and Handelsblatt selected the ten most innovative German healthcare startups. The finalists pitched to a jury of experts from the healthcare, digital, and investment sectors in Düsseldorf in September. Three startups won the vote and were honored on October 12 in Hamburg.
The winner of the evening was Curevision. With its AI-supported software, the startup Revolutionize the quality of care for 12 million patients with chronic wounds worldwide. To this end, Curevision has developed a medical device-certified 3D wound scanner for nursing staff that measures wounds with millimeter precision and identifies the various tissue types in the wound bed. The solution saves up to 90 percent of the time required for conventional wound analysis, thus reducing healthcare costs.
Second place went to Neo Q from Berlin, whose software solution is designed to simplify the radiology workflow. Radiologists enter all information about the findings of X-ray, MRI, or CT scans into the "RadioReport" with a mouse click or touch command. This makes the examination results available to further treatment providers more quickly and can be incorporated into hospital information systems in compliance with GDPR.
Third place went to the Stuttgart-based startup Semanux. With its product SemanuxAccess, people with motor disabilities can operate computers independently, intuitively, and without contact. All that's needed is a webcam. The solution thus simplifies participation in the digital society in both private and professional contexts.
