EIT Urban Mobility: RAPTOR program seeks mobility startups

The European Rapid Applications for Transport (RAPTOR) program gives mobility startups the opportunity to collaborate directly with cities and offer their innovative solutions. The program also provides up to €40,000 in funding for selected projects. Interested companies can apply until May 6.

The goal of the RAPTOR program is to promote sustainable urban mobility across Europe. To this end, it offers European startups the opportunity to collaborate directly with cities and offer innovative solutions that go beyond conventional approaches to urban mobility. To this end, projects from 13 countries addressing pressing urban mobility issues have been selected. Startups that want to contribute their solution to one of these city projects can apply for RAPTOR.

The projects are:

  • Bacau, Romania: Creation of a transport system that meets the mobility needs of the elderly population.
  • Brasov, Romania: Optimizing commercial delivery traffic in the historic center to reduce congestion and air pollution.
  • Brussels-Capital Region, Belgium: Facilitating the movement of goods and services in low-traffic areas.
  • County Fingal, Ireland: Data collection and impact assessment of 'school/quiet streets' to improve road safety, promote active transport, and enhance quality of life.
  • Ghent, Belgium: Improving road safety through automated and cost-effective video analysis.
  • Graz, Austria: Analyzing traffic accident data to prevent future accidents.
  • Helsinki, Finland: Development of new, scalable, and automated methods for collecting accessibility data for a) vulnerable user groups and b) logistics on precise routes, e.g., by wheelchair.
  • Konya, Türkiye: Improving the multimodal commuter experience.
  • Košice, Slovakia: Implementation of an intelligent, cost-effective traffic signal prioritization system for public transport and emergency vehicles, ensuring minimal impact on infrastructure and technological compatibility.
  • Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain: Collection and analysis of data on the accessibility of pedestrian infrastructure.
  • Liepāja, Latvia: Monitoring CO2 emissions of vehicles entering and leaving an urban area using license plates for identification.
  • Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal: Empowering citizens to use active mobility through improved information on walking and cycling routes on the existing mobility platform.
  • Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain: Monitoring cycling traffic to understand the use of existing cycling infrastructure and to ensure traceability and safety.

RAPTOR: 40,000 funding and possible follow-up projects

Interested companies can choose from the 13 city projects the one that best suits their offer and present their innovative proposals Submit by May 6, 2024The winners receive 40,000 euros to test their solutions on-site in the selected city for five months. Numerous opportunities await them afterward: On average, almost three-quarters of the companies continue their collaboration with the cities beyond the initial five-month pilot period. Some even secure additional follow-up investments from EIT Urban Mobility.
