The biotech startup 2NA Fish has completed another funding round. The additional pre-seed investment is led by GF Bryck Ventures, with a follow-on investment from existing investor Twip. With the capital, the winner of the Munich Startup Award 2024 plans to further develop and validate its platform for spatial RNA biomarker detection for use in research and translational oncology. In addition, the Munich startup wants to expand its software architecture and build new early-access partnerships.
2NA Fish’s platform combines nanostructure-enhanced probes with established pathology workflows. It delivers clear, specific signals and enables practical multiplex analysis on standard fluorescence microscopes. In this way, 2NA Fish aims to make spatial RNA biomarker analysis more cost-effective and more widely accessible – especially in laboratories and routine diagnostics. AI-powered analysis software quantifies cell analyses and converts complex RNA data into clinically actionable information.
The goal is to translate research findings into clinical application more quickly and enable physicians to make more informed decisions in cancer diagnosis and therapy.
Focus on practical applications
Christina Port, founder and CEO of 2NA Fish, says:
“This additional funding helps us translate strong lab results into real-world applications – to complete important validation steps, expand early-access collaborations, and optimize the software that research teams and pathologists need.”
The investor side also expresses positive views on the cooperation: Jan zur Hausen, venture partner at GF Bryck Ventures, explains:
“2NA Fish addresses clinically relevant multiplexing applications while remaining pragmatic in its workflows – a combination that can foster acceptance in research and application.”
Twip is also investing again. Michael Adersberger, managing director and investment manager at Twip, emphasizes:
“We’re expanding our support because the 2NA Fish team is achieving rapid product progress and acquiring first customers. What particularly impressed us is the rare combination of scientific depth, implementation strength, and a clear vision for practical application.”
Biotech for oncology
2NA Fish develops a biotechnology platform that makes it possible to visualize and quantify RNA molecules directly in tissue. The startup uses special nanostructured probes that amplify the signals of target molecules. This produces particularly clear and precise measurement results, even when multiple RNA biomarkers are examined simultaneously – that is, multiplex. By integrating into standard pathology workflows, the technology is intended to provide new impetus to translational cancer research and biomarker-based programs. The startup was founded in Munich and is working to make its platform accessible for use in routine laboratories.
