AATec Medical GmbH, a biotechnology company based in Munich, has raised four million euros in a Pre-Series-A financing round. The company develops therapeutic approaches for chronic inflammatory and infectious respiratory diseases based on recombinant alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT). The funders include the Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovations (Sprind) as well as several private investors, industry experts, and single family offices.
The capital inflow is being used to further develop the lead drug candidate ATL-105, which is intended for the targeted treatment of non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFB). This chronic inflammatory lung disease affects more than three million people in Western countries and is currently treated only symptomatically. Targeted drug therapy does not currently exist.
As part of the financing, ATL-105 is to be prepared for entry into clinical development by 2026. The goal is to create a causal and locally effective therapeutic option for NCFB. Preclinical data indicate a high safety profile and broad therapeutic potential.
