On May 12, 2025, the AI Music Summit will take place at Werksviertel Munich – an exclusive event that explores the intersection of music and artificial intelligence (AI). The event is organized by GEMA in cooperation with Wise and serves as the kickoff for the 2025 GEMA members’ assembly. The event brings together musicians, tech experts, startups, and other stakeholders from the music-tech ecosystem to discuss the opportunities and challenges of AI in the music industry.
Artificial intelligence as a creative partner
A central aspect of the AI Music Summit is the discussion of AI’s creative use in music production. Questions being raised include: “How can AI become a creative partner – rather than a replacement?”, “What does the next generation of AI tools for musicians look like?” and “What does authorship mean when machines compose?” These and other topics will be explored during the event, with responsible AI use and the protection of intellectual property in the digital age also playing a major role.
Startup pitch: The path to the future of music production
For startups working at the intersection of music and AI, the AI Music Summit 2025 offers a unique opportunity. GEMA and Wise are seeking six visionary startups with a functioning MVP that support musicians with their technologies. The technologies should foster the creative process while ensuring ethical and forward-thinking AI practices.
The selected startups will have the opportunity to pitch their solutions to a specialist audience from the music and tech industries. In addition, the winners of the pitch competition will receive prize money of 3,000 euros and exclusive support through Fraunhofer Tech-Matching. This cooperation with Fraunhofer enables startups to further develop their technologies and pursue new research and development approaches.
