Alaiko provides online shops with an automated platform that connects them with logistics and shipping service providers. Through the service offered by the Munich-based company, shops can also provide their customers with a seamless platform for self-management of orders. As recently announced, the Munich startup is entering into a merger with Zenfulfillment, a technology-enabled e-commerce fulfillment provider for online retailers. This creates one of the largest e-commerce fulfillment providers in Europe.
Through the merger, the combined annual throughput increases to over 10 million packages from over 300 online retailers with an e-commerce sales volume of more than half a billion euros, according to the companies’ own figures.
Future operations under “Zenfulfillment”
The merged company, which will operate under the name “Zenfulfillment” in the future, aims to set new standards in speed, reliability, and efficiency in e-commerce by combining Zenfulfillment’s logistics expertise with Alaiko’s operating system.
“The strategic merger strengthens our competitive advantage, creates tremendous synergies, and thus accelerates our shared growth many times over”,
says Moritz Weisbrodt, Managing Director of Alaiko, who together with his Alaiko co-founder Gabriel Thomalla will join the management of Zenfulfillment in the future. Johannes Humpert, Managing Director of Zenfulfillment, emphasizes in this context:
“The integration of Alaiko’s management into the new leadership team is a crucial step to combine the expertise of both companies and drive forward our shared vision.”
A real alternative to Amazon
And Daniel Werner, Managing Director of Zenfulfillment, explains:
“From the outset, our vision has been to create a genuine alternative to providers like Amazon by strengthening independent shops and enabling them to offer a shipping and returns service that can compete with Prime in terms of reliability, speed, and price—or even exceed that offering.”
The transaction is accompanied by a funding round in the millions from existing and new investors, led by supply chain investor Moguntia Capital.
“With this merger, we are bringing together two highly complementary, technology-enabled e-commerce fulfillment providers that combine their operational excellence and platform strengths. Together, we are setting new standards in e-commerce fulfillment for online retailers”,
explains Malte Janzarik, Managing Partner of Moguntia Capital.
