Arx Robotics, a Munich-based company specializing in unmanned ground systems (UGVs), has completed a Series A funding round of €31 million. The round was led by HV Capital, with participation from Omnes Capital and existing investors NATO Innovation Fund and Project A. With this capital, ARX Robotics aims to expand its position as a leading provider of modular, AI-driven robotic solutions and contribute to European defense sovereignty.
European defense in transition
The demand for advanced military technology in Europe is growing. Amid geopolitical tensions, defense modernization is a priority for many nations. According to ARX Robotics, military land operations, accounting for 80 percent of military activities and 70 percent of personnel and material deployment, remain underautomated. This is where the company’s technology comes in.
“The demand for modular, software-defined defense systems is rising rapidly – and we are building the company that will shape this category in Europe”,
explains Marc Wietfeld, co-founder and CEO of Arx Robotics.
“We are pursuing a clear mission: building the next generation of defense technology infrastructure through scalable robotics and software. We are grateful for the trust of our renowned investors who share and support this vision. This funding is an important milestone for ARX Robotics and a catalyst for our scaling.”
Arx Robotics was founded in 2022 by former Bundeswehr officers Marc Wietfeld (CEO), Maximilian Wied (CFO), and Stefan Roebel (COO). The company develops AI-powered UGVs and the world’s first independent AI operating system for existing vehicles – Arx Mithra OS. The goal is to support armed forces with digital solutions for situational awareness and fleet modernization.
Scaling and European sovereignty in focus
The new funding will be used to expand production capacity, drive European expansion, and attract leading AI talent. Mithra OS will be further developed as the technological backbone for autonomous defense systems. Arx consistently aims to establish a fully European supply chain and keep critical technologies under European control.
“Arx demonstrates that Europe can develop internationally competitive defense technology – modern, AI-based, and sovereign. The success and growth of Arx underscores the urgency and strength of their product. HV Capital is proud to support this outstanding team”,
says Fabian Gruner, partner at HV Capital.
Today, Arx Robotics supplies six European armed forces. The largest Western-developed UGV fleet is in operation in Ukraine. Additionally, the company has been commissioned by the European Defense Agency (EDA) for a project as part of the first EU-wide innovation initiative in the defense sector.
“We are proud of the enormous progress Arx Robotics has made over the past year – from expanding its product portfolio for existing fleets to geographic growth to building a world-class team. Arx has the largest Western UGV fleet in operation in Ukraine, and we look forward to continuing to support the company on its growth trajectory within NATO”,
adds Chris O’Connor, partner at NATO Innovation Fund.
With the Series A round, Arx Robotics has paved the way to the next scaling level.
