Three years after its market launch, Avi Medical operates a network of modern, technology-supported general practices in Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Stuttgart. With Avi Heart, the startup is now expanding its service portfolio with its first targeted care program. Part of this growth step is the acquisition of iAtros, which has developed a telemedicine solution that enables data-driven treatment of cardiology patients.

Avi Heart combines the medical spectrum of Avi Medical with the virtual comprehensive care of iAtros. The program is aimed primarily at patients with cardiovascular diseases or metabolic syndromes, the classic widespread diseases. Additional modules for comprehensive care of patients with other chronic diseases are in planning.

Vlad Lata, CEO and co-founder of Avi Medical, explains:

“Avi Medical’s goal is to rethink the care model completely. We are firmly convinced that every patient should have a personalized health plan and ideally be monitored from home with the right smart devices so that doctors can make the right treatment decisions from a distance. At the same time, we want to empower patients to take action themselves. By integrating iAtros, we realize this vision in a first fully-fledged version and bring a product to the market that gives our doctors the ability to manage thousands of additional patients without having to leave the practice.”

Prof. Dr. Alexander Leber, director and chief physician Isar Heart Center and clinic for cardiology and co-founder of iAtros, comments on the acquisition:

“Our founding vision was to customize 100 percent of medical care for heart patients to their needs and, above all, to make it scalable and continuous through the use of digital tools. The integration of iAtros into Avi Heart is revolutionary because now a 360-degree hybrid care treatment of heart patients has been realized.”

Avi Medical aims to drive a sea change in healthcare

With Eckhardt Weber, managing partner of Heal Capital, one of Avi’s investors also has his say:

“From the beginning, we were convinced that Avi, as the only player in the European market, is capable of rethinking healthcare. In the future, AI and doctors will work hand in hand for the best patient care. Avi is the first company to actually implement this vision and bring it to market. By acquiring iAtros, Avi is further expanding its technology leadership.”

With the complete digitalization of primary standard care, Avi Medical has reached the next level of its business development. According to the startup, more than 100,000 patients have already been using the Avi Medical app as an extension of their doctor since its introduction. An essential part of the digital transformation is the collaboration between doctors and fully automated digital co-pilots in the practice. This system manages workflows, creates individual treatment plans for patients, and coordinates appointment management.

Lata looks ahead:

“Thanks to digital technologies, healthcare is transitioning from a reactive to a proactive model. The future patient-centered digital medicine is far more than just treating diseases and leads individuals to a healthier lifestyle. Technology and data come together and free up valuable time for medical professionals – at the same time, they enable better, personalized, and continuous treatment. Digital tools are the superpowers of healthcare, and only with them will the much-needed sea change in healthcare succeed.”
