Founded in 2017, the Munich-based startup Blickfeld develops and manufactures LiDAR sensors and perception software. These generate precise three-dimensional information about the shape and surface properties of surrounding objects, enabling various applications. The technology is already being used for privacy-compliant tracking of vehicle and pedestrian flows in retail spaces and public places. It also supports optimization of traffic flow, urban planning, and reduction of false alarms in building and security systems.

Blickfeld plans to use the additional capital to advance the development of its LiDAR solutions for autonomous driving and various industrial applications. Furthermore, the startup aims to expand its position in key international markets. To this end, the Munich-based company is currently opening regional offices in international markets such as the USA and China. Blickfeld currently has around 130 employees.

EIB Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle, responsible for Germany business and the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), says:

“With our venture debt program, we support innovative young companies that need long-term growth capital to focus entirely on developing their products and marketing them worldwide. Blickfeld’s financing demonstrates the EIB’s strong commitment to supporting innovative companies in their early stages to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness.”

“Blickfeld’s 3D LiDAR solutions create entirely new fields of application”

EU Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni sees great potential in the Munich startup:

“Innovation and sustainability are two of the central criteria we apply when deciding to finance companies and projects. Blickfeld’s 3D LiDAR solutions create entirely new fields of application, whether in autonomous driving and smart mobility, in the construction industry, or in agriculture. This not only provides companies with market advantages but also makes the supply chain as a whole more efficient and sustainable.”

And Mathias Müller, co-founder and CEO of Blickfeld, explains:

“The EIB’s support is a testament to Blickfeld’s maturity as a company and the confidence that decision-makers have in the potential of our LiDAR technology. The capital provided by the EIB is the ideal financing instrument for us to expand even more rapidly. We are convinced that our LiDAR solutions will make a real difference for numerous industries, and we are very pleased that the EIB has recognized an important innovative technology in this that strengthens Europe’s competitiveness.”
