In his new role as CEO of Chargex, Tobias Scharfen has been operating alongside Michael Masnitza at the operational level since February 1st. His main focus is on international expansion, building additional sales channels, and developing scalable structures for further growth of the startup.

Tobias Scharfen is regarded as a highly connected expert in the e-mobility sector. As CSO of Austrian company Has To Be, a provider of charge point management systems, Scharfen was instrumental in establishing appropriate sales structures for above-average growth. In 2021, the startup achieved the largest exit in Austrian startup history to date, being acquired by US company Chargepoint for €250 million. After the transition period, Scharfen founded his own consulting firm, Forward Concept, focusing on e-mobility and energy sector startups. In doing so, he established the “Charging Night” together with Baywa Mobility Solutions, one of the central networking events in the e-mobility industry.

“Preparing Chargex for the next stage”

“The Chargex founders, the highly motivated expert team, and I will position this excellently funded company appropriately during the current quiet phase for the EV hockey stick. Part of this will be strengthening partner sales,”

explains new CEO Tobias Scharfen.

Tobias Wagner, his predecessor and co-founder of the startup, is stepping down from his previous management role at his own request but remains a shareholder and member of Chargex’s advisory board. He will also take on strategy and innovation projects. He says:

“Every founder must ask themselves during the scaling or growth phase whether they are still the optimal person for the challenges ahead. The management restructuring is for me the necessary step to prepare Chargex optimally for the next stage. I appreciate Tobias Scharfen both as a person and as an expert, and I have great confidence in him. His personality fits us, he is undoubtedly the right person.”
