With the acquisition of Munich-based startup Patentmaker, DeepIP is strengthening its position in the European market for AI-supported patent work and significantly expanding its presence in the DACH region. At the same time, Munich’s startup ecosystem gains another international AI provider with a local office.
Patent work remains local – despite global AI platforms
Globally scalable AI technology and local legal expertise are to be strategically connected. While many AI applications rely on standardized processes, DeepIP and Patentmaker argue that patent work remains strongly influenced by local factors due to different legal systems and procedures. While DeepIP brings an internationally established AI platform for patent drafting and patent prosecution, Patentmaker has deep knowledge of German and European patent practice.
More than 34 million euros in funding in less than nine months
DeepIP has developed into one of the leading AI platforms for patent drafting and prosecution in the US and Europe and ranks among the fastest-growing legaltech companies. According to its own statements, the company has raised more than 34 million euros (40 million US dollars) in capital since its founding in less than nine months.
The company now counts more than 400 law firms and corporate IP teams among its customers, while it is deployed in 25 jurisdictions across five continents. Additionally, DeepIP works with more than half of the 50 leading North American IP law firms. Over 25,000 patent applications have already been drafted on the platform.
End-to-end platform for the entire patent lifecycle
By integrating Patentmaker, DeepIP is expanding its platform with additional expertise for the European market. The combined solution is designed to map the entire patent lifecycle within a single platform – from invention disclosure and prior art search through patent drafting, filing, and prosecution to post-grant work. The goal is to consolidate all work steps in an integrated environment and thereby make processes more efficient.
Munich becomes DeepIP’s German base
For Munich as a location, the acquisition brings additional significance. DeepIP is opening its German office in the premises of Boehmert & Boehmert, anchoring itself directly in the German patent and innovation ecosystem. The pan-European IP law firm was among the early adopters of AI-supported patent tools and supported the development of practice-oriented applications for patent attorneys. This collaboration is to be continued with the integration into DeepIP. The goal is to combine legal expertise with modern AI tools and make patent processes more efficient.
Celia Wei, previously managing director of Patentmaker, is taking over responsibility for DeepIP’s German business. Founder Matthias Hofmann is joining DeepIP as co-founder and Germany lead.
According to DeepIP CEO François-Xavier Leduc, the acquisition is intended to strengthen the company’s position in the European patent market and expand proximity to the European Patent Office (EPO) and users of the technology:
