DPD Deutschland ships over 350 million packages annually. Some of these will soon be replaced by Hey Circle’s reusable shipping boxes. As part of a new distribution partnership, DPD takes on the role of mediating between the startup and its own business customers. This is intended to enable easy integration of the boxes and bags into existing logistics processes.
Customers benefit from the eco-friendly and stable packaging material, which protects shipments more securely and produces significantly less waste due to its durability. Companies and their customers can use the reusable boxes and bags for up to 50 cycles or for internal shipping. The long service life often reduces costs because companies don’t have to constantly buy new packaging. This applies, for example, to closed-loop systems and retailers with high product return rates.
Karsten Schwarz, Chief Executive Officer at DPD Deutschland, comments:
“Our partnership with Hey Circle is another important step towards more sustainable package shipping. We see our role as offering customers innovative, environmentally friendly solutions that integrate easily into existing shipping processes. With Hey Circle’s reusable shipping bags, we’re setting a sign for more sustainable logistics.”
At Hey Circle, there is conviction that reusable shipping is the future of e-commerce. Hey Circle founder Doris Diebold says about the new partnership:
“DPD and Hey Circle have a common goal: a nationwide reusable concept for e-commerce. Through the partnership, shipping companies experience that they can rely on established logistics processes with innovative packaging. We look forward to working together to attract pioneering customers for waste-free shipping.”
Hey Circle and DPD already tested last year how well the foldable packaging made from recyclable plastic fits into logistics operations. This also included a test with clothing manufacturer Trigema. 200 XL boxes shuttled between the production facility and stores to reduce waste and save costs.
