Munich-based startup Ark Climate has raised €2.1 million in a pre-seed round. The round is led by climate tech investor Satgana. Other investors include Another VC, the Voyagers Climate Fund, several business angels, and the Federal Ministry of Research. The company announced this news.
Ark Climate develops a cloud-based platform for municipal climate protection. With the fresh capital, the 12-person team aims to grow further, expand its presence on the German market, and develop data models and AI applications.
Platform for data-driven climate protection
According to the German Environmental Agency, municipalities have considerable potential for reducing emissions. Cities, municipalities, and districts in Germany can save over 100 million tons of CO2 equivalents. This corresponds to 16 percent of Germany’s total emissions. Municipalities are responsible for expanding district heating networks, cycle paths, and public transportation, as well as energy retrofitting of public buildings.
At the same time, administrations face complex decisions. They must take into account political targets, prioritize measures, and involve various stakeholders from politics, administration, and the public. Often, a consistent data foundation is lacking.
Ark Climate consolidates relevant information and brings stakeholders together in one digital place. Municipalities can plan climate goals, coordinate measures, and track progress. Built-in data models analyze energy and emission values and assess the impact of individual measures.
Ruth Bosse, founder and CEO of the startup founded in Munich in 2024, says:
“Our platform makes it easier for cities to make the right decisions and move quickly to implementation.”
Even with limited resources, emissions can be reduced effectively. According to Bosse, the company is also working to “accelerate climate protection locally even further with AI-powered climate intelligence.”
Convinced early adopters
According to its own information, Ark Climate currently works with 43 municipalities in Germany. These include Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Solingen, Bamberg, and Kassel. One of the first customers is the city of Überlingen.
Jannik Vester, climate protection manager for the city of Überlingen, says:
“With the platform, we can efficiently coordinate our climate protection measures, collaborate across departments, and present progress transparently.”
With the pre-seed financing, the Munich-based startup aims to advance product development and win more municipalities as customers. The pipeline is huge: there are around 10,750 municipalities in Germany in total.
