Under the motto “Startups create society!” the non-profit association Forum Gemeinwohl recognized startups that make a positive contribution to society with their solutions, awarding them the Public Value Award. Seven finalists from fintech and greentech, smart city and medtech presented their common good-oriented business models in Leipzig. Energyminer succeeded in convincing both the jury and the audience, placing third.

The Public Value Award honors startups that respond to social challenges with their offerings and thus create value for society. The award is intended to encourage young companies to actively shape societal values and further develop their individual common good profile.

This year, around 120 applications were received. All startups that qualified for the final were already given intensive coaching before the award ceremony. All award winners now receive membership in Forum Gemeinwohl and thus access to a network of scientists, entrepreneurs and consultants – including additional mentoring and consulting services.

Energyminer generates renewable electricity through micro-hydroelectric power plants that are not intended to interfere with the river ecosystem. Like a school of fish, the novel turbine systems generate baseload-capable electricity. Multiple swarms of these efficient energy fish are bundled in operating companies in which everyone can participate and benefit.

Energyminer: Team support

At the same time as the award, the Munich startup announces a new team member. Ludwig Kons, who brings over 30 years of experience in the energy industry as part of the RWE Group, is joining the Energyminer team. The decision to support the startup is based on his personal interest in sustainable energy generation and water management. Kons will primarily support Energyminer in acquiring sites for energy fish swarms.

Richard Eckl, one of Energyminer’s founders, commented on the team expansion as follows:

“Ludwig Kons has an impressive career in the energy industry. Over the years, he has significantly contributed to the development of renewable energy projects.
That is why we are proud to work with him.”
