The Arrow Innovators Award program aims to support tech startups early on in development, marketing, and production so they can bring their products to market faster. Hardware startups in the fields of electrical engineering, IoT, and deeptech from the DACH region can participate in the award.

This year, the award goes to Munich: In the final, Energyminer convinced the jury and prevailed against eight competitors. The jury, composed of representatives from Analog Devices, BatchOne, Infineon, Molex, Munich Re, and Arrow, evaluated the submitted products based on the criteria of degree of innovation, technical difficulty and solution approach, as well as business case and team.

Energyminer has developed a micro-hydroelectric power plant with the Energy Fish that generates electricity in rivers around the clock and can supply cities and municipalities continuously and reliably with power. More extensive tests and larger systems are planned for the coming year.

Energyminer: “Pushing mass production”

Georg Walder, co-CEO and founder of Energyminer, commented on the award:

“We are very pleased about the victory and the prize money, which we want to use together with Arrow to push electronics development with a view to mass production. This success confirms our innovative power and our commitment. Our goal is to install so many Energy Fish over the next five years that we can replace at least one major coal power plant in Germany. Thanks to the great platform provided by the Arrow Innovators Award, we have the opportunity to make our solution accessible to a wider audience and make a sustainable contribution to future energy supply.”

Other winning teams

The Lara solution (land-based automated recirculating aquaculture) from Blue Planet Ecosystems from Vienna makes it possible to establish sustainable and closed ecosystems for algae, plankton, and fish farming in a short period of time. The containers are powered by solar light and produce algae, which in turn provides zooplankton for fish nutrition. This creates fresh biofish independent of location in the vicinity of consumers. The system addresses the problems of conventional aquaculture.

The company Xtra Dynamics from Heilbronn develops ultra-thin, stretchable light films. The electroluminescent films called X-TENSE are used, for example, on work clothing and thus increase the visibility of people in the dark or in fog. The product is already being successfully used in racing sports and safety-relevant facilities, among others.
