India will be the 42nd country where Flix operates. The potential is enormous, as India’s long-distance bus market is larger than those in North America, Europe, and Turkey combined. The first Flixbuses are set to operate across the subcontinent in 2024.
André Schwämmlein, co-founder and CEO of Flix, says his company wants to continue expanding globally, grow profitably, and build the best long-distance bus network in India:
“India is one of the most promising markets in the world. We will invest substantially there and want to become the market leader, as we do in all Flix countries.”
Flix expansion into India: “market potential is huge”
As in other markets, Flix will not operate buses in India itself. Regional bus companies will handle operations. The Munich-based company provides technology, customer service, quality management, network planning, marketing, and sales. Schwämmlein says:
“The demand for sustainable collective travel options in India is enormous and continues to grow. Moreover, online bookings are becoming increasingly popular in India. That’s why expansion was a logical step for us – the market potential is huge.”
In addition to Flixbus, Flix also operates the train subsidiary Flixtrain. According to its own statements, Flixbus is the market leader in Europe and is also active in Turkey, the USA, and Brazil. Flixtrain currently operates only on routes in Germany and Sweden. Munich’s home train station has not yet been served by the green trains.
