FreewayCamper was founded at the end of 2019 by Julia Blum and Nikolai Voitiouk-Blum. The Munich-based company operates a platform where customers can rent Bullis, campervans, and motorhomes directly. In the meantime, the startup’s rental station network has grown to over 20 stations in Germany and 6 international locations. Additionally, FreewayCamper users can also book camping sites throughout Europe directly on the platform – in a few weeks, the startup plans to reach the 1,000 camping spots mark.

“What makes our concept special is that in addition to our own stations, we expand together with our partners. We provide our partners with our platform and marketing power, among other things, and achieve optimal utilization in the FreewayCamper system through our dynamic pricing. Our partners also benefit from our product concept, ensuring that the unique FreewayCamper customer experience is guaranteed at all stations.”

explains Julia Blum, managing director and co-founder of FreewayCamper.

“Hit the mark of the times”

“We founded and scaled the company during the most challenging time in the tourism industry. Even during this year’s supply chain crisis, we were able to more than triple our revenue thanks to our strong partners like VW, Mercedes, and our rental partners. This success underscores that with our advanced asset-light model on both the supply and demand side, we have hit the mark of the times and are successfully bringing the entire camping market into a new era,”

emphasizes Nikolai Voitiouk-Blum, CEO and co-founder of the startup.

The current financing round of €30 million consists of both equity and debt capital. In addition to existing investors, such as the Flix founders, new investors are also participating in FreewayCamper. Rockaway Ventures from Prague is leading the round as lead investor. And Bridge to Growth from Berlin is providing the startup with venture debt financing. For the coming year, the FreewayCamper team is preparing expansion into further European countries and continuing to develop its partner concept.
