For the German startup monitor 2022, 1,976 startups were surveyed last year, 8 percent of which came from Munich, most from Berlin (19.1 percent). To find out what difficulties and expectations startups face nationwide – but also regionally such as in Munich – input from as many founders as possible is essential for the DSM. Meaningful results from this survey help bring the concerns of the founder community to the political agenda and improve the framework conditions for founders.
German startup monitor: survey now open
The survey is anonymous and takes around 10-15 minutes. In addition to topics such as diversity, financing and policy, the DSM is setting additional priorities this year on university-based startup promotion and generative AI.
Last year, German founders were relatively satisfied with their startup ecosystem: 67.7 percent rated it as good or very good. In Munich, even 72.4 percent were satisfied with the ecosystem, in Berlin 81.0 percent. Berlin and Munich were described in the report as “real hotspots” and used as a benchmark for the entire German startup scene. However, the participating startups did not rate everything positively; 34.5 percent of respondents cited difficulty finding suitable personnel as a central challenge. In the two years prior, this was 26.6 percent and 17.0 percent respectively.
