On September 6, a Flixbus with some unusual passengers on board will leave Munich’s ZOB – it will carry around 30 tech enthusiasts who will work on digital solutions for sustainable travel on their way to Mannheim. During the almost five-hour journey, participants in this “Flixathon” can then develop their solutions. Flix is organizing the event together with The Hackathon Company, a Mannheim-based company that specializes in organizing hackathons. Its founder Oliver Brümmer explains what makes the “Flixathon” special:
“So far we have only conducted hacks with more than 24 hours and a strong internet connection. I’m curious what is possible in about five hours on the road. The fun should definitely not be short.”
Specifically, the goal is to develop sustainable transport solutions to further minimize CO2 emissions in the mobility industry. Route optimization, schedules, and resource allocation to minimize environmental impact play a role, as does the use of data analysis. Creating user-friendly solutions to promote environmentally friendly travel decisions is also on the agenda.
The bus’s destination is Mannheim. From September 6-8, the Hackfestival takes place there, one of Europe’s largest hackathons. Several hundred tech talents come together to work on solutions for decarbonizing the planet, which is also the event’s motto. Flix takes on the role of mobility partner and, in addition to providing the bus for the warm-up, also offers discount codes for all participants.
Participation in the Flixathon is free for everyone who registers for the Hackfestival. Departure is at 7:30 AM at Munich ZOB, arrival between 1 and 2 PM. In addition to the opportunity to work with like-minded people on real challenges, participants will also receive a certificate of participation.
