The Landeshauptstadt München is searching for solutions to five concrete challenges in the smart cities sector with its innovation competition. The approaches that are most convincing will be awarded the innovation prize and tested in a pilot project.

In the 2024 innovation competition, ideas are being sought for the following five challenges:

  • The cool side of Munich – routing for pedestrian paths in the shade
  • Digital Welcome Center – AI-supported information portal for new and future Munich citizens
  • Job and recruiting compass for international newcomers
  • Improving data on parked vehicle traffic
  • Choose Green – promoting energy-efficient mobility routines for Munich

Application deadline is May 15

Students, founders, and creative talents from the startup community can participate in the competition. The submission deadline is May 15. And participation is worthwhile: each winning team receives prize money of 10,000 euros as well as an additional implementation budget of up to 15,000 euros as a subsidy for services and materials. Additionally, UnternehmerTUM, the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship, the LMU Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center, the founders@unibw founding center, and the Start2 Group offer support for the implementation phase.

Applications are possible in German or English. The presentation to the jury should be in German, and German is also intended as the working language in the implementation phase.

Detailed information about the challenges, the process, and how to apply can be found here.
