A visit to the car wash now has another advantage for e-car owners: while they wash their car, they can now also charge it quickly. A cooperation between Munich startup Jolt and IMO Car Wash, one of the world’s largest car wash operators, makes this possible.

Jolt is working to establish a network of charging stations in urban spaces. For this, the startup based in Munich and Dublin relies on fast-charging stations that offer up to 300 kW charging power. This allows electric vehicles to charge enough energy for around 100 km of range in just five minutes. To expand its network, the company is relying on partnerships with the public sector as well as companies such as gas stations, supermarkets, and other strategic locations. The special thing about it: Jolt’s charging stations don’t require extensive grid expansion because they rely on energy storage systems.

German IMO Carwash Group counts itself among the world’s largest car wash operators and operates around 700 facilities in twelve countries across Europe and Australia. In Germany, the subsidiary IMO Autopflege GmbH is responsible for operating 280 locations. These are now to be gradually expanded through the partnership with Jolt into a “one-stop experience” for e-car drivers. There they can not only wash and vacuum their cars, but also charge ultrafast in the future. Jolt handles financing, construction, and operation of the charging infrastructure, while IMO receives an additional revenue stream without its own investments.

Pilot projects in Berlin, Dresden, and the Ruhr Valley

Maurice Neligan, CEO of Jolt Energy, explains:

“Our fast-charging infrastructure is key to accelerating the transition to electric mobility in cities. The partnership with IMO Car Wash offers a unique opportunity to provide added value to IMO customers and expand our charging network. Customers come not only to wash and vacuum, but now have another reason to visit the location: fast and reliable charging of their electric vehicle at attractive rates through the Jolt app.”

The pilot project starts at five IMO Car Wash locations in Berlin, Dresden, and the western Ruhr Valley. In 2025, the cooperation is already to be expanded to other urban areas. Within six months, the charging technology is to be installed and put into operation. This gives IMO quick access to the e-mobility market, as Carsten Karasch, Managing Director Germany at IMO Car Wash, emphasizes:

“We are pleased to cooperate with Jolt, a trusted and reliable partner that helps us secure our locations for the future by providing a charging offering.”
