The Phönix Prize has been awarded annually since 2010 in cooperation with the Munich Migration Advisory Board. Winners receive a prize seal from the City of Munich, which they are permitted to use in their public relations work.
Munich residents with a migration background who operate a business or work as freelancers are eligible to apply for the competition. Their company must be based in Munich and must have been active in the market for at least three years. The following categories are considered: start-up companies, small companies, established companies, and companies with a special business history.
Three criteria apply to the evaluation of companies:
- Company development
- Creation and securing of jobs and apprenticeships
- Diversity in business.
An independent expert jury decides on the award, and applications are still possible until September 16.
Among the winners of the last Phönix Prize were Semir Babajic and Giancarlo Fodera, two of the founders of Munich startup Treesense. The startup has developed sensor technology for real-time monitoring of tree health to enable data-driven tree care decisions. The solution aims to optimize irrigation of urban trees while saving water and labor.
More information about the Phönix Prize is available on the City of Munich website.
