Munich is a film hotspot, not just during major festivals like Filmfest Munich, Dok.fest and others. The following startups are also bringing fresh momentum to the video production industry, which is why it’s worth keeping an eye on them, according to our Munich Startup expert Linette Heimrich.

  • Mini-series in vertical 9:16 format are already a rapidly growing multi-billion dollar market in Asia and the USA. The Munich startup Vertical Minds is now bringing this new successful format to Europe. Their vertical video platform Eilin delivers series entertainment tailored to German audience tastes on the smartphone – perfect for those short breaks during the day.
  • Anyone who has worked in film production, like the three founders of Vero, knows the challenge of keeping all the threads together – contracts, working hours, surcharges, and budgets – while also meeting compliance requirements. Their trust-tech solution captures payroll-relevant production data and prepares invoices.
  • Hours spent searching for the right film can quickly ruin a relaxing streaming evening. The discovery tool from Qentin quickly delivers the right recommendations based on mood, situation, and personal preferences – across platforms and available directly in your living room. Founders Nadja Sauer and Luis Sütter were also part of the Munich Startup Pitch Contest at the Kinoliebe Festival.

All three startups are being supported as part of the Media Startup Fellowship of the Media Lab Bayern.
