The Munich-based technology company Quantum Systems has successfully completed a financing round of €160 million and has thus secured unicorn status. The Series C round was led by Balderton Capital. Other new investors include Hensoldt, Airbus Defence and Space, Bullhound Capital, and LP&E AG. Existing investors HV Capital, Project A, Peter Thiel, DTCP, Omnes Capital, Notion, and Porsche SE have also participated again.
With this financing, the Munich-based company aims to accelerate its global expansion, scale production capacities, and further develop its autonomous drone systems, software, and AI technologies.
Growth across all levels
Quantum Systems was founded in 2015 and specializes in AI-powered aerial reconnaissance systems. According to its own figures, the company has achieved annual revenue growth of over 100 percent for several years. The company currently employs around 550 employees at locations in Germany, Australia, Ukraine, and Romania.
The startup’s modular drone systems combine eVTOL technology (electric vertical takeoff and landing), edge computing, AI, and autonomous navigation. The products are used in both military and civilian applications – including public safety, open-pit mining, agriculture, and infrastructure projects.
“The need for sovereign, air-based reconnaissance has never been greater than today. Our systems – a powerful combination of hardware and software – are designed for the reality of modern defense and security requirements: autonomous, interoperable, and proven under extreme conditions. With the support of our new and existing investors, we are ready to become Europe’s market leader in roboticized and AI-powered aerial reconnaissance solutions. We provide government and private customers with the high-resolution and accurate data they depend on for their daily decisions”,
says Florian Seibel, co-CEO and co-founder of Quantum Systems.
New markets and strategic acquisitions
In addition to technological development, Quantum Systems is pursuing a clear expansion strategy. The company acquired German drone manufacturer Airrobot in March. Through this, Quantum Systems became a Tier-1 supplier to the British Ministry of Defence. The acquisition of Nordic Unmanned UK also enabled market entry in the United Kingdom.
With its latest product generation Vector AI, the Munich-based company addresses current requirements for real-time ISR functions (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance), even in complex operational areas without GPS or communication coverage.
Sven Kruck, co-CEO of Quantum Systems, comments on the current financing round:
“The successful completion of our Series C financing round is a major milestone in our company’s history. This investment enables us to continue pursuing our vision and significantly strengthen our market position. We will expand our worldwide production capacities to meet the growing demand for our AI-powered ISR systems and expand our global market presence.”
And Mike Schöllhorn, CEO of Airbus Defense and Space, adds:
“As current conflicts demonstrate, Europe’s security will depend on networked, interoperable, and cross-domain defense solutions – as well as the ability to advance war-deciding capabilities at the necessary speed. Airbus is pursuing its mission to help shape a leading defense ecosystem in aerospace that provides our partner nations with precisely these capabilities. Partnerships with agile and competent companies like Quantum Systems are critical building blocks for realizing this shared vision – they accelerate innovations in autonomous flight and cooperation between manned and unmanned systems.”
With the new financial resources and strategic support from investors, the Munich-based company plans to further strengthen its position as Europe’s technology leader in roboticized reconnaissance.
