Nomadic Drones aims to fundamentally transform the inspection of power grids. The core of its business model consists of autonomous drones that can recharge themselves during operation. Instead of regularly returning to a base station, the drones land directly on power lines and use their magnetic field to recharge their batteries. This technological innovation is intended to enable significantly more efficient and continuous monitoring of energy infrastructure. In a company statement, it says:

“Our journey began with a bold idea: to revolutionize the inspection of power grids through self-charging autonomous drones. We set out to build drones that can do more than just fly: they land on power lines and recharge by harnessing the magnetic field generated by the infrastructure they are meant to inspect. This groundbreaking concept has not only sparked our imagination but also convinced investors who share our vision of safer and more efficient energy systems.”

The company’s idea is aimed primarily at energy providers who need to monitor their grids reliably and safely. By eliminating costly and dangerous manual inspections, operating costs should decrease while safety increases.

Pilot projects and next steps

The 1.4 million euro (1.6 million US dollar) funding marks an important milestone for the startup. With these funds, the team plans to accelerate further development of the prototype and implement first pilot projects with major utility companies. This is intended to demonstrate the potential of the technology under real-world conditions.

Nomadic Drones emphasizes that the development has not been without challenges. Numerous iterations of the prototype, long nights, and periods of uncertainty have characterized the team’s journey so far. Nevertheless, the commitment of all those involved led to a solution that has convinced investors such as Outlander VC and Asia2G Capital.

With the fresh capital, Nomadic Drones is focusing on growth, technological advancement, and scaling in a market seeking solutions for safe, efficient, and sustainable energy supply.
