The tents are already up, and things will soon be in full swing on the Theresienwiese. And for visitors who prefer not to pay with cash, there is good news: Card acceptance at Oktoberfest is set to be expanded even further.

The Oktoberfest kicks off on September 16th. To further expand cashless payments, fintech company SumUp is the exclusive payment partner of MeinFest this year, the Oktoberfest license partner and mobile payment specialist for showmen and tavern operators. Oktoberfest vendors are thus given the opportunity to improve service for Oktoberfest guests even further using the SumUp Solo mobile card terminal in their establishments.

Payments can be made either directly at the table or as a complement to the till. And tipping doesn’t have to be missed out on either, as the SumUp Solo card terminal has an integrated tipping function. Various payment options are possible: In addition to contactless and mobile payments via Apple Pay and Google Pay, the device also offers the option to insert the card and trigger the payment process via chip and PIN system if needed. All common debit and credit cards are accepted.

“Basic offering of every business”

Werner Franzl, managing director of MeinFest, is convinced:

“This year we expect a further increase in card payments at Oktoberfest. This makes the Oktoberfest a little more accessible for all guests. Last year, demand for cashless payment options was enormous. We are very pleased that with our cooperation with SumUp, we have a reliable partner at our side to make the festival as successful as possible for customers and merchants.”

And Gunnar Hartmann, Partnerships Acquisition Lead for SumUp, adds:

“Cashless payment options must nowadays be part of the basic offering of every business. Customers expect, across all industries, to have the option to pay by card at any time and any place – and the Oktoberfest is no exception. Even though cash payments have traditionally dominated at the fair, we are very confident that with our SumUp Solo terminal, we can convince even the last skeptic among the vendors. The cooperation with MeinFest is therefore an important step.”
