Ororatech is a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich and develops a global, satellite-based early warning system for forest fires. The spacetech now announces its partnership with the Seranis mission and makes its satellite platform available for an in-orbit demonstration mission. This gives researchers the opportunity to bring their ideas into orbit and test their instruments and experiments.
Seranis is set to implement for the first time in Germany an integrated laboratory environment that combines next-generation mobile communication systems with modern communication satellite networks of the New Space era. As the Federal Armed Forces’ first small satellite mission, Seranis provides the Federal Armed Forces with access to strategically relevant space technologies. In doing so, Seranis actively promotes the involvement of young companies in its mission.
For Ororatech, the joint use of the platforms is a premiere and according to a LinkedIn post by the startup
“…something we want to continue with our space development team in the future, because this project shows what is possible when satellite developers and scientists work together.”
The experiments of the small satellite mission include, among other things, sensors for radiation values and technologies that track global migration patterns of birds. These experiments are currently under development and are to be operational for a Transporter rideshare mission launching no earlier than November. The projects are intended to contribute to Germany’s digital sovereignty, particularly in the areas of digital technologies, climate protection, and the energy transition.
