For the mental health of its policyholders, private health insurance Ottonova and the mental health app Lumeus by Emotrain have joined forces. The Lumeus app offers an emotion training program designed to help manage stress, anxiety, and depressive moods, promote healthy sleep, or break unhealthy eating habits.

The new partnership allows Ottonova policyholders to access emotion training through the rewards program “Health X – Experience your health”. Users can earn points by actively participating in surveys or product tests and then redeem them for various health offerings. As of now, the portfolio also includes the Lumeus app and the training programs “Power of Emotions”, “Weight Management Training”, “Emotional Child Training”, and “Mental Sleep Training”.

Bernhard Brühl, CEO of Ottonova, comments:

“Almost a billion people worldwide live with a mental illness. We want to put mental health on the agenda of the health care system and through preventive measures help our policyholders take care of their health before it’s too late. We are pleased to have found a partner in Lumeus who provides our policyholders with a tool for their mental wellbeing.”

Emotrain, which owns the Lumeus app, has made it its mission to develop innovative approaches to promoting wellbeing and mental health. To this end, the startup combines insights from psychology, neuroscience, and music therapy to offer solutions for mental health issues. The Lumeus app is certified by the Central Office for Prevention, and the effectiveness of the underlying method has been confirmed in a pilot study by the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry.

Verena Herzog-Pohl, CEO of Emotrain, explains:

“We are proud to have such an innovative health insurance company as a strong partner at our side. With Lumeus, all Ottonova policyholders have the opportunity to train their mental strength and thus alleviate or preventively avoid mental as well as physical complaints.”
