The SET100 list, published by the global innovation platform Start Up Energy Transition (SET), brings together the 100 most promising energy transition and climate tech startups worldwide that are driving innovative business models in the field of energy transition and climate protection. The SET initiative is organized by the German Energy Agency (dena) in cooperation with the World Energy Council.

Pionierkraft, which made it into the TOP 15 startups on the list, aims to realize the construction of photovoltaic systems using its innovative hardware and digital services. The Munich-based company focuses on smaller multi-family residential buildings. While solar systems for single-family homes and large tenant electricity systems are already booming, this market – which encompasses just under 40 percent of the German housing stock – remains largely untapped. As a one-stop shop, Pionierkraft enables a complete all-inclusive package without administrative overhead and integrates PV, heating, and mobility applications for optimal decentralized energy use. In October 2024, the Munich company convinced investors with this approach and raised a high seven-figure amount in a Series A round.

“The SET100 list embodies pioneering spirit”

Corinna Enders, CEO of dena, emphasizes the significance of the SET100 list:

“The SET100 list is the central showcase for the world’s most innovative and promising energy transition startups. The selected startups present proven, forward-looking solutions that actively contribute to achieving our climate goals. As a guide for technological innovations and scalable business models, they accelerate the transition toward sustainable, resilient energy systems – for the benefit of people and the planet. The SET100 list embodies the pioneering spirit we need to master the global challenges of the energy transition.”

5 award winners in 5 categories

In mid-March, the TOP 15 startups from the SET100 list had the opportunity to present their innovative solutions at the SET Tech Festival as part of the SET Awards ceremony. An international jury of renowned experts selected the finalists from over 350 applications from 68 countries. The award winners included:

  • Cowa Thermal Solutions AG in the Clean Energy & Storage category
  • Nyobolt Ltd. in the Mobility & Transportation category
  • Cyclize in the Industry category
  • Concular in the Buildings & Construction category and
  • Koolboks in the Quality Energy Access & SDG-7 category
