Project Q has raised €7.5 million in a seed funding round. The round was led by Berlin-based early-stage investor Project A. The Expeditions Fund from Warsaw and Superangel from Estonia are also participating.
Project Q was founded in 2024 by Leonard Wessendorff and Frank Christian Sprengel. The company develops technological solutions for the defence and security sector, pursuing an “Internet of Defence” (IoD) approach. The goal is to make civilian technologies such as AI, cloud and sensor technology available for security-critical applications.
The cornerstone of the project is the Q-Open Source Platform (Q-OSP), a modular, open infrastructure platform. It networks sensors, existing systems and data sources via cross-domain interfaces and uses artificial intelligence to create precise situational pictures in real time. This is intended to make operational decisions more efficient and strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty in the defence sector.
Scaling with authorities and partners
With the fresh capital, Project Q plans to further develop the Q-OSP platform, expand its team and implement initial pilot projects with European security and defence authorities. The startup already works closely with public partners today.
Founder Leonard Wessendorff brings experience from his work at a German defence company as well as reserve officer training. Together with co-founder Frank Christian Sprengel, he is driving an application-oriented development approach that combines commercial technologies with military requirements.
Technology platform with growth ambitions
With its solution, the startup addresses a central challenge of modern defence systems: The multitude of unmanned systems and sensors generates enormous amounts of data that have previously been difficult to consolidate into unified situational pictures. Project Q aims to address this with its scalable, interoperable platform.
With the current investment, Project Q joins the growing portfolio of Project A in the defence tech sector, which also includes Arx Robotics and Quantum Systems.
