Alongside IQ Capital and Earlybird, Onsight Ventures, First Momentum, Creator Fund, and UnternehmerTUM also invested a total of 3 million euros in Quantum Diamonds. On top of that comes 4 million euros from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator and the Free State of Bavaria as funding.
Quantum Diamonds develops atom-sized quantum sensors that enable non-destructive imaging of magnetic fields at the nanoscale. To achieve this, the company modifies artificial diamonds at the atomic level so they can be used as sensors. The measurement principle is based on the disruption of the quantum properties of this defect by temperature, magnetic, and electrical fields. This opens up a previously untapped area of sensor technology and enables highly sensitive measurements at the atomic and molecular level.
The startup already has a functional prototype. It now wants to use the fresh capital to hire additional engineers so the company can manufacture its first commercial product. The technology offers applications in the semiconductor industry, as well as in medical diagnostics and battery development.
Kevin Berghoff, co-founder and CEO of Quantum Diamonds, says:
“With our work at Quantum Diamonds, we stand at the forefront of revolutionizing sensor technology by advancing both semiconductor manufacturing and breakthroughs in other critical areas such as biology and chemistry on a global scale. This funding will enable us to bring our first commercial product to market, supported by expanding our quantum engineering team. Our ultimate goal is to build a robust global quantum sensor platform that transcends boundaries and catalyzes transformative advances across various scientific disciplines.”
From the investors’ perspective, Mason Sinclair from IQ Capital also comments:
“With its groundbreaking developments in quantum sensors, Quantum Diamonds is redefining quality assurance standards in the semiconductor industry. Their pioneering technology has the potential to revolutionize semiconductor manufacturing processes. We are excited about the prospect of supporting Quantum Diamonds in achieving broad adoption and success in this transformative field.”
