Munich-based charging infrastructure company Qwello is expanding its presence in the Netherlands. Through its subsidiary Qwello Benelux B.V., the company has acquired a majority stake in Groen-Eco B.V. Groen-Eco will continue to operate under its current management and with its existing operational team.
More than 1,400 charging points across 230 locations
Rotterdam-based Groen-Eco specializes in charging solutions for businesses and semi-public locations. The company operates 720 chargers with more than 1,400 charging points across over 230 locations in the Netherlands. Its business is built on long-term contracts with landlords and companies, which typically run for over ten years.
Groen-Eco handles the installation, management, maintenance, and billing of the charging infrastructure. For Qwello, the acquisition marks an expansion of its B2B and destination charging business. At the same time, Groen-Eco will be able to leverage the Munich-based company’s proprietary hardware and full-stack software going forward.
Qwello aims to expand B2B business
Henrik Thiele, Managing Director of the Qwello Group, sees potential primarily in the existing customer base and long-term contracts:
“Groen-Eco brings a strong customer base and a solid portfolio of long-term location contracts. Together, we see great potential to further expand the business.”
Martien de Groene, founder of Groen-Eco, is also banking on the combination of existing customer relationships and Qwello’s technology. Qwello brings the technological and operational strength needed to guide the company into its next growth phase.
Jeroen Franken, Managing Director of Qwello Benelux, describes the investment as a reinforcement for the company’s growing B2B business. In addition to Qwello’s technology and operational capabilities, he highlights the shared values and goals of both companies.
Qwello Operates More Than 18,000 Charging Points
Headquartered in Munich, Qwello builds, owns, and operates charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. According to the company, Qwello now operates more than 18,000 charging points. Among other initiatives, the company partners with municipalities through public concessions and invests private capital into expanding the infrastructure.
In addition to Germany and the Netherlands, Qwello is active in Sweden, the UK, France, Spain, Poland, and Denmark. With the majority stake in Groen-Eco, the Munich-based company is now primarily expanding its commercial and semi-public charging location business in the Netherlands.
