The procurement of medical devices in many hospitals is still characterized by Excel lists, fragmented data, and complex supply chains. Sanovio, founded in 2024, wants to automate the entire procurement process with an AI-powered procurement platform – from data harmonization to delivery. Co-founder and CEO Noel Nosswitz explains why bootstrapping was a decisive success factor for Sanovio and why scaling is now in focus.

Munich Startup: What measurable difference does your solution make today?

Noel Nosswitz, Co-Founder & CEO: Concretely, we enable our clinics to achieve an average of 50 percent savings through data harmonization and price optimization, with 100-percent delivery reliability. For us personally, the biggest measurable difference shows up in our customers’ reactions. “The best tool I’ve seen in a long time. The IT department had tears in their eyes,” a hospital buyer from a university clinic recently told me. Because our tool gives teams the relief of being able to work strategically again, away from outdated Excel lists and ERP systems, toward efficient agent-based work in natural language. And on the other side, manufacturers sell digitally directly to consolidated demand, improve their margins, and gain user insights for innovative product development.

Munich Startup: Why are you faster, better, or bolder than established providers?

Noel Nosswitz: We rethink hospital procurement entirely from scratch, AI-native, collaborative, and fully vertically integrated. We start at the core, data quality in the hospital. On a cleaned-up basis, clinics consolidate their needs through our platform as a virtual purchasing community and gain direct access to the best-price provider worldwide. But we don’t stop there. Through our affiliated supply chain company, we handle the entire procurement transparently, from the manufacturer’s workshop to the supply cabinet in the hospital. Established providers show savings in theory. We implement them, because our solution combines digital and physical infrastructure.

Capital scarcity as a filter for product decisions

Munich Startup: What decision has been most important so far?

Noel Nosswitz: The decision to grow through our own efforts—bootstrapped. Capital scarcity acts as a filter for product decisions. Our customers are our only investors. This forces a product that must hold its own in the market from day one, rather than postponing the product-market-fit proof and masking it with external capital. In the healthcare market, speed comes through network, trust, and reliability, and through a product that fits the user as well as possible. We chose this approach and are working with leading clinics in Switzerland and Germany as development partners on our solution. That way, we know we can scale optimally now.

Munich Startup: Which phase has caused you the most growing pains?

Noel Nosswitz: The current phase is causing us the biggest growing pains, and that’s exactly a good sign. The foundation of the rocket is in place, there are still a few things to polish and fine-tune. Now we need the team to accompany this mission and launch with us. If you’re interested in structurally changing hospital procurement, you should get in touch with us now.

“Now it’s about implementation and speed”

Munich Startup: Where do you want to be in five years and what must happen by then?

Noel Nosswitz: We want to become the leading procurement platform for hospitals in Europe. For that to happen, three things need to occur. We must consistently scale our platform from the proven pilot phase to broad deployment, expand our network of clinics and manufacturers, and build a team that carries this mission with the same conviction as we founders do. The need is there, the technology is there. Now it’s about implementation and speed.

Munich Startup: What works particularly well in the Munich startup ecosystem and where would you like more support?

Noel Nosswitz: Munich offers a strong foundation with excellent universities, access to talent, and a high density of established actors in the healthcare and technology environment. Beyond that, we’d like to see more cross-state dialogue with startup ecosystems and at the interface between young companies and hospital operators.

Munich Startup: Internationalize or first achieve market leadership in DACH?

Noel Nosswitz: Both, in the right order. We’re betting on local DACH market leadership while at the same time constantly testing the waters in other markets to gauge potential. Hospital procurement faces the same challenges in many countries, and our solution was built from the start to scale and generate the strongest effects through networking.
